Washington DC Event, Saturday February 10th
For all of you in the Washington DC area, this is my father ~ !
Michael Lydon will speak on a Civil Rights Stories Panel at the 4th annual Urban Film Series in Washington DC, Saturday February 10, 3:30 pm at the Regal Cinema Gallery Place, 707 7th Street NW (Metro: Gallery Place-Chinatown).
Other panelists will be one of the legendary Tuskegee Airmen, a white SNCC student volunteer, and a former Black Panther.
Lydon will focus on the Mississippi Freedom Summer of 1964 that he covered for the Boston Globe:--the murders of Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner in Philadelphia, voter registration in Greenwood, and firebombings in McComb.
"I'll surely talk about Charles Moore, a young black man from Meadville, Mississippi, murdered that summer, whose body my reporting helped identify," says Lydon. "Moore's killer was only arrested a week ago. We've come a long way, but we've got a long way to go."
The Urban Film Series is a four-day multimedia event (Feb 7 to 11) at several Washington venues, with notable guests including filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles, actress Yvette Freeman, jazz musician Roy Ayers, and Washington Wizards NBA player and poet, Etan Thomas.

There's a little barbecue in everyone. Bobby Seale, a former black panther, has been slappin' meat on the grill for many years.

I remember hearing him on the radio in the early 1980s while commuting away from work. He was one of the major players in my opinons today about grills and cooking. Go Bobby !!!
