James John Cafe, St. Johns, Portland
can you have a new favorite place if you don't live in that place?
a place you'd go out of your way to go, even if you didn't live in that neighborhood?
a favorite place you think about even when you're in your own place, a 10 hour drive away?
live in Portland? then you're lucky.
james john cafe. go now. they make their own baked goods, have a few lovely sandwiches, paid attention to details {the walls are painted crema and chocolate-coffee brown}, and have a great attitude.

Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
yes.
Missing your face at the Farmers' market around here. (Cyberhug) Tomorrow is the BFM peach tasting, so I'll be thinking about you when the verdict is: Carl is the man. Speaking of Carl, he gifted me (ok, traded for meaty red sauce) a box of peach wood for my next big smoker adventure. Next week I'm gonna try and go catch some salmon to try it out. I'll save you a piece if Neptune obliges.

St. John's is a totally separate community, even if the people who live there have Portland addresses. It's like Portland of the 50s or something. If you ever see "Mr. Holland's Opus," (which was shot in a neighborhood I lived in, at the HS my landlady had attended) the bus station scene was shot in St. Johns because it still looks the same as it did then.

I couldnt agree more! I lived in St Johns for about a year (have since moved back where I came from, Bellingham) and MISS the hell out of this cafe! I am planning a trip to Portland in May and this will be one of my first stops..
