First of May.
May has arrived. In all her in-between glory. Is she summer or spring? Is she cherries or more rhubarb? Is she hot into the night or a mere stolen kiss of warmth?
M A Y.
Three letters, one syllable.
May first is International Worker Day.
May first is a day for protest, awareness, and gratitude. Also known as May Day, May first has often been a day for Spring celebrations. {May 1st is a cross-quarter day.}
May Day also makes me think of kerchief masked anarchists and combat boots.
May first reminds me of this line,
"The Union.
From The People Who Brought You The Weekend."
May. Such a short little word. Soft, quiet, innocuous. Like an only child playing in the corner. A quiet child: one who has not quite learned how to speak. Or May as definitive, no need for fuss. May. Succinct, to the point, without argument. Doe eyed. Comfortable. Non-confrontational.
Betwixt & Between, May. Not yet summer, and not as cool as the Spring of March.
April Showers Bring May Flowers.
May as the innocent. May as a month to celebrate life breaking out of ground, one energetic arrow pointed at the sky, reaching, stretching towards sun.
The last month of the school year. May brides and weddings abound. Can may be a celebration of pastels?
May always sneaks up on me. May is always my bridge to June, and I am ashamed to say, little else. The memo for May gets lost in the shuffle of April and reminds me to clean up before June lands on my shoulders.
How do you celebrate May?

Shuna! I love the poetry of your posts. You make me smile.
I am going to celebrate May by being happy.

Yesterday, May 1 swept through Denver dumping scads of snowflakes the size of my palm. It was if a group of people stood on my roof, tossing basket after basket of roughly-shredded paper over the edge. SO gorgeous, and comPLETEly unexpected.
Oh, May. You are too, too cute.
