Sometimes if you are very lucky someone comes to visit who says very little but fills the space with his cuteness. he smells every corner of your new flat and approves. He finds the sunny patch and lies in it sweetly. He sheds a little but it's ok because then you can remember later, after he sadly leaves, that he graced your presence.
Sure he doesn't say much but when he does speak, you're all ears. Well you can't compete with him, but you're listening as closely as you can. Because his voice is so precious. Earnest. Heartfelt.
If you are really lucky, though, his mom comes to bring you Persian treats from the market. She drives across Oakland and well into the North side of the next township with ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!
Persian ice cream! Subtle with the faint whisper of rosewater. And an icy sorbet bettered with a quick squeeze of lemon juice and filled with rice noodles. Noodles in ice cream?! You hope you will like it because she has traveled all this way, with the cutest house guest. It reminds you of cringing at the thought of looking at your new boyfriend's poetry. How will you say, lovingly, that you hate it?
But you love it. Noodles in icy sorbet bright with lemon juice eaten alongside creamy rosewater ice cream.
You are glad, so very very glad that you are these people's good friend. You make a pot of Mariage Freres tea and eat little Persian chickpea flour cookies with the mouthfeel of silk velvet, and the whole day you are gliding over the clouds with joy. Or a caffinated high.
That's a pretty enchanting little face. Great photo.

I *heart* little woofers...mine are cute, but too big and boisterous to take to other homes.

We made some falooda for our Persian new year feast last night. People are often scared to try noodles with ice cream and flavors like rose and saffron. But once they try it they usually love it. I will have to post a recipe and some photos soon.

My heart swells with fondness thinking of what a lovely afternoon that was, and what blessed people we are that we are your friends.
We heart you, Shuna!

Shuna, this was such a lovely post. So loving and impressionistic and sweeping through the afternoon. And that face! What's not to love?
