I realize this is not about food. Well not the sort of nourishment one receives through a moist orafice. But I beg of you, if you have not already gone, to go see the Anselm Kiefer show at the MoMA in downtown San Francisco. It is magnificent.
This image on the right? I thought I'd seen the photo enough times to be completely over the sculpture, but in person it silenced these trite thoughts and filled me with awe.
Titled Heaven and Earth, this exhibition features works in various mediums, and the curator(s?) have given the large paintings more than enough space to breathe in. I loved that there are informative plaques which give contextual information along the way.
I realize you're busy. Can't decide which raffle prizes to bid on. Looking forward to a restful weekend before Christmas hits you over the head. But you have only until January 21st, 2007 to see this remarkable artist's work. I hope you make it there. It fed me, if even with wonderment and poetry.
Thank you for the encouragement to go visit -- between you and several other friends, I managed to make it on the very last day of the show; and, indeed, it's inspired me to poetry already.
