One day there was an excited me about a new ice cream machine.
And then it arrived.
All glistening and new.
Lots of knobs and pulleys and screws and beaters.
{well, no pulleys.}
But it looked small.
Not really big enough to hold the 3 Liters like it said it did.
Even though the delivery people insisted it did.
I puzzled.
And mulled.
And tossed.
And turned.
What was wrong with this new machine?
And then I churned sorbet.
Lots of it.
And then I saw.
I experienced.
I yelled. I stomped. I cursed.
I called the man who sold us the machine.
We spoke. He researched.
I researched.
I used it again.
I sweated. I pulled. I cursed, fought, felt defeated.
I called the ice cream machine man again.
We argued. I raised my voice.
I called the chef.
I called a past employer, got on the internet. And then,
I Found My Prince!
He had been there all along. And he had never been a toad.
The Ultimate. The One and Only. My One True Love.
Kiss me you fool!
Tell me you'll me mine forever!
Wrap your chilly beaters around my soul and tell me you'll be mine until the end of time.
Churn my ice cream like nobody's business. Make my other suitors cry in despair. No matter.
We will run off into the sunset, or just to the other end of my station to the sink, and live happily after.
Tuesday September 18 marks 4 weeks of sleepless, excited, challenging, frustrating, nerve-wracking, joyful, maddening, gorgeous days!
I wouldn't trade it in for the world.
"penultimate"?
Next to last?

Shuna, your happiness is leaping off of my screen! I'm really glad for you, and I can't wait to taste what you've been working on.

at an average of 6 hours of sleep per night and working 6 + days a week I hope you, Larry, and others can give me a bit of grammatical slack.
it's changed, ok?

Huzzah! Glad to hear all is well in the kingdom of ice cream makers. I very badly wish I could get one like your Prince, but as my kitchen is not a restaurant and I'm about to put down that same amount of money on a car, perhaps I will just settle for a $50 Cuisinart and my dreams.

Sorry. Have all the slack you need or want.
I should have explained that that word is a favorite of mine.
The Paul Harvey...
For years I managed a shift-team at a computer center (which had ONE computer that occupied most of two floors).
One of my folks had the task of preparing a sheaf of reports that went to managers all over the company (the Bell-system company there that does not exist anymore).
The reports went out under a boiler-plate cover letter that explained what the reports showed (called and "Executive Summary).
Near the bottom were the words "...and the penultimate page shows the...".
EVERY MONTH I would would get a memo from somebody telling me that the referenced information was actually on the next-to-the-last page.
Cheers, and good luck. If I get back to the area in this life I will look you up.

Holy Shit. A $7,700 ice cream maker? That machine must crank out a batch in seconds. I think we should have an ice cream day over at Sens where all we do is make new cool flavors of ice cream, all day long.

Wow! You got to spend almost as much on your machine as I did on my entire kitchen. Rock on!
